Polystyrene mouldings: how do you fit them properly?
What you need to fit polystyrene mouldings:
- the mouldings themselves;
- adhesive and something to apply it with;
- a pencil;
- a tape measure;
- a cutting tool, depending on the job;
- a damp cloth to wipe off any adhesive marks afterwards.
Measure the area where the moulding goes. Make your marks. Work out what has to be cut*, if anything, and test that the joints — corners especially — line up. Apply adhesive to the moulding and press it onto the wall, very gently, so the adhesive takes hold but the moulding doesn't crack. Ideally have someone help you; it's easier that way. Start from the corners, to be sure they join perfectly.
*lay the moulding face down, hold it steady and cut the end at 45 degrees. Sand the cut edge lightly so it is smooth and joins correctly with the next piece.
